Welcome to Getting Down with GIMP! Since you are coming to this tutorial, it stands to reason that you have some sort of interest in computer graphics. If you do, that's awesome, because it means that you've come to the right place. This tutorial will get you started learning about a powerful program for creating and editing digital imágenes called GIMP.
GIMP, which stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program, is similar to other image manipulation programs like Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, and Paint Shop Pro. Unlike those programs, however, GIMP is free software. We think that alone makes GIMP better than any of the others.
The imágenes here were all created by students from Arlington Public Schools, in Arlington, Virginia, using GIMP.

This tutorial is designed to be a basic introduction to GIMP. It will be fun, personable, and educational. Far too many tutorials are five-inch-thick books of information written in a language as foreign to those of us here on earth as Klingon or Vulcan. Getting Down with GIMP is simple and basic. You will learn by doing and be designing graphics from the first lección onward.
